Emerson Spice, originally a merchant’s house, features art Zenji Deco colours and motifs, and two very different restaurants: the rooftop Tea House and the Secret Garden. Loyalty toward Zanzibar heritage and ingredients permeate ambiance and menus, as well as a playfulness and unconventionality apparent from venue, ingredients, menu, to the staff.
With views of sea and city, and not the least, the iconic green roofs of sister hotel Emerson on Hurumzi, the Emerson Spice Tea House restaurant offers a Seafood based, Set five course ‘Taste Safari’ degustation Menu. Dinner is prepared daily by our Zanzibari Chefs. The Sunset Hour is an integral part of the experience, and Diners are encouraged to arrive around 6PM to enjoy the sunset hour before dinner, which is served promptly at 7PM.
The rooftop breeze offers respite from the midday heat up in the Tea House, where Lunch is served. A grilled Seafood or Vegetarian platter, with seasonal variations of accompaniments, prepared à la minute, are served along with chilled beverages.
Set amidst lushly landscaped hidden ruins, open to the skies, the Secret Garden offers a Zanzibari inspired à la carte menu. Jazz infused evenings, occasionally featuring our TaraJazz protegés and international artists.
The hidden away Sebleni lounge is a perfect spot for coffee or cocktails, all classics with a Zanzibar twist.
Look out for special events and performances of up and coming Zanzibari musicians. Also ideal for private functions.
Our restaurant space is located right in the heart of the city.
